Ramayana Day 1: Rs 64.85 crore India net, behind Adipurush

Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: Part One earned an estimated Rs 64.85 crore net in India on its opening day, Thursday (5 November), according to trade tracker Sacnilk — below the Rs 86.75 crore India net that Prabhas-starrer Adipurush made on Day 1 in 2023.

Hindi led the split with about Rs 47.50 crore from 20,678 shows. Kannada added Rs 7.25 crore, Telugu Rs 6 crore, Tamil Rs 2.60 crore and Malayalam Rs 1.50 crore, Sacnilk reported. India gross stood at about Rs 77.50 crore.

Adipurush had been far stronger in Telugu on its opening day; Ramayana's Telugu haul of Rs 6 crore left that comparison one-sided even as the new film led in Hindi. Sacnilk put Ramayana's worldwide gross at about Rs 127.50 crore after Day 1, including roughly Rs 50 crore overseas. Some trade reports said the makers were quoting a higher worldwide figure of about Rs 155 crore; Sacnilk's tracked total remains lower.

The Day 1 India net is a career-best opening for Kapoor on Sacnilk's tracker, edging past Animal's Rs 63.80 crore in 2023, but it missed the Rs 100 crore-plus India openings some trade desks had floated before release. Occupancy on opening day was modest for a working Thursday, Sacnilk and outlets covering the tracker said.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film stars Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. It released worldwide on 5 November ahead of Diwali. Weekend figures will show whether the holiday stretch lifts the total; Friday collections were still coming in as of Friday evening.
