Privacy Policy

Effective date: 18 October 2026
Last updated: 23 October 2026

1. Who we are

The Indian Idiot and TheWhatup are operated by TII Media Private Limited. This policy covers theindianidiot.com and messages sent to the contact details listed on this page. It explains what information we handle, why we handle it and how you can contact us about it.

Privacy enquiries: charansh@theindianidiot.com, with “Privacy request” in the subject line. Grievance contact: Charansh Juneja, at the same address.

Websites and social networks we link to have their own privacy policies. This policy covers only how we handle information.

2. Information you give us

If you email or call us, we receive your contact details and whatever you choose to tell us, such as your name, email address, message and any links.

We use that information to understand and respond to your message and to keep a record of how it was handled. Please send only what is needed. Do not send passwords, payment details, identity documents, medical records or private information about yourself or anyone else that we do not need.

3. Website and security information

This website is hosted and protected by Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare’s network processes technical information such as your IP address, browser details, the pages requested, timestamps, and security or error events. This is needed to deliver pages, keep the site reliable and prevent misuse.

Our website does not build profiles of visitors and does not record contact details or message contents in its error logs. Worker log export is switched off. Cloudflare’s own infrastructure and security processing still applies, so this does not mean no technical records exist.

4. How we use information

We use information to run and maintain the website; to deal with enquiries, story tips and correction requests; to respond to privacy and copyright concerns; to detect misuse and fix technical problems; and to meet legal obligations or handle disputes. Contacting us does not sign you up to any mailing list, and we do not use your message for marketing.

You decide what to include when you contact us. We use what you send for the matter you raise, not for unrelated purposes.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it by contacting us. That may mean we cannot continue with an enquiry that needs the information. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done lawfully before, and we may keep information where the law requires it or where it is needed for a legal claim.

6. Cookies, analytics and embedded content

Our website does not set cookies or use your browser’s local storage. There are no reader accounts, newsletter sign-ups, advertising trackers or affiliate tracking.

We keep simple daily totals of article views and of clicks on our story recommendations, stored in our Cloudflare-hosted database. These are counts of requests, not of individual readers. We do not store IP addresses, browser identifiers, search terms or anyone’s reading history in these totals. We try to leave out bots, prefetch requests and visitors whose browsers send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals, though these checks are not perfect. The totals do not use cookies, browser storage or any analytics script.

Separately, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure page views and page-load speed. Cloudflare adds a small script to our pages that reports to this website’s /cdn-cgi/rum address. Our settings exclude visitors in the European Union. Cloudflare says this service does not track individual visitors across websites. We do not claim that infrastructure information is anonymous or that IP addresses are never processed.

Links to our social profiles and to the sources in our articles are ordinary links. On mobile, the homepage and article pages may load a recent public post from @thewhatup on Instagram as you scroll towards it; if the post cannot be verified, only a link to the profile is shown, and nothing loads on desktop. Loading that post or following an Instagram link connects you to Meta, which may receive your IP address, browser and page information and may use cookies under its own policy. If you block third-party content, the post will not load but the profile link stays available.

See Instagram’s Privacy Policy and Cloudflare’s Web Analytics information.

7. Service providers and sharing

Cloudflare provides our website hosting, storage and network security. Google provides the email service for charansh@theindianidiot.com, so messages sent to that address are held in that mailbox.

See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy, Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Cloud Privacy Notice.

We do not sell personal information. Messages are accessed only to deal with the enquiry and any related operational or legal need. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to deal with a security incident, or to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.

8. Story tips and messages

Sending us a message does not make it public. We do not publish private messages. Any use of a private message, or of information that identifies someone, in our reporting is considered separately, and we seek permission where it is needed.

Ordinary email is not a confidential or anonymous whistleblowing channel. If a matter is sensitive, get in touch first without attaching confidential documents or details that could put anyone at risk.

9. How long we keep information

Emails stay in our mailbox for as long as we need them to deal with an enquiry, record how it was resolved, meet a legal obligation or handle a dispute. If you ask us to delete something, we will check whether we still need it. We do not promise automatic deletion after a fixed number of days.

The website’s database holds published articles, cover images, story recommendations and the daily totals described above. It does not hold messages or a list of visitors. Daily totals are kept for 90 days, and the Most read section uses only the last seven days.

Our providers’ logs, mailbox retention and backups follow their own settings and processes, so we cannot give a single deletion period for every system. Deleting an email from the mailbox may not remove a provider’s backup copy straight away.

10. Security and international processing

The website uses HTTPS, the public site only does what it is built to do, and our internal tools are kept separate from public pages. No email account credentials are placed in browser code. These measures reduce risk but no website can guarantee complete security.

Cloudflare and Google run international services, and Instagram is a Meta service, so information may be processed outside India. We do not promise India-only storage.

11. Children

This is a general-audience news website. We do not ask children to send us personal information. If you believe a child has sent us information that should not have been collected, contact us and we will look into it. Please do not send identity documents with a first request.

12. Requests and complaints

To ask for access to, correction or deletion of your information, or to withdraw consent, email charansh@theindianidiot.com and tell us what you need. Grievance contact: Charansh Juneja. Please put “Privacy request” or “Privacy complaint” in the subject line.

We may ask for reasonable information to confirm your identity or authority before sharing or changing anything. We will not ask for identity documents where something less intrusive will do. Some requests may be limited by law, legal claims or record-keeping requirements; if so, we will explain why.

We handle requests under the law that applies to the information involved. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection framework is coming into force in phases, and this policy does not suggest that every part of it is already in effect.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when our services, practices or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the current version. Where the law requires us to give further notice or ask for a new choice, we will do that as well as updating this page.
