Udta Teer, the spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, collected an estimated ₹4.10 crore net in India on its opening day, Friday, October 23, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. Its India gross for the day was ₹4.83 crore.
The film ran across 6,265 shows and averaged ₹6,544 per show, with opening-day footfalls of 187,849. Overall occupancy for its Hindi 2D shows was 15.65%, the Times of India reported, citing Sacnilk.
Night shows were the strongest at 25% occupancy. Afternoon shows recorded 14.46%, evening shows 13.77% and morning shows 5.08%. Overseas and worldwide figures were not yet available, News9 reported.
The film faces competition from Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar, Tu Hai Meri Kiran and Kaali Kheti, as well as the Hollywood releases Clayface and Wildwood, which arrived in theatres around the same time.
In the film, Ayushmann plays Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani agent who takes on the identity of Vikrant Thapar to get inside India’s Counter Terrorism Squad, only to be asked by his Indian boss to find a mole in the organisation. His wife Yamini, who works at the Defence Ministry, adds to the confusion.
Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover are in the supporting cast. The film is produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with music by Sachin-Jigar.
Reviews have been mixed. ETimes gave it three stars out of five, saying: “Udta Teer has plenty of promise, but its glaring change of identity ultimately derails it.”
Box office figures at this stage are early estimates and may change as studio data comes in.
