Pakistan beat India by three wickets in their Group A match of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman on Sunday (8 November), thanks to an unbeaten 100 off 108 balls from wicketkeeper-batter Hamza Zahoor.

Chasing 209, Pakistan slipped to 61 for five inside 15 overs. Zahoor, who came in at No. 7, put on 107 for the sixth wicket with Hasnain Abbas Dar, who made 38 off 67 balls, and then shepherded the lower order home in 48.1 overs with 11 balls to spare. He hit 10 fours and three sixes and was named player of the match. Manal Chauhan took three wickets for 32 for India.

India had chosen to bat and lost captain Lakshya Raichandani for a duck off the second ball of the match. They were 42 for four in the 17th over before Arjun Rajput hit 107 off 85 balls, with 11 fours and five sixes, to drag them to 208 all out in 46.3 overs. Kavya Patel made 23 and Aaryavir Sehwag 22. Rizwanullah (3 for 24), Ali Raza (3 for 37) and Niqab Shafiq (3 for 42) shared nine wickets.

The win, Pakistan’s second in a row after a nine-wicket victory over the UAE, puts the defending champions on top of Group A with four points. India have two points from a win and a loss. Both teams have one group game left, and the top two sides go through to the semi-finals. Pakistan beat India by 191 runs in last year’s final in Dubai.
