Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in Delhi on October 30 will go ahead as planned after the Delhi Police reconsidered and granted permission on Friday, October 23, a day after declining it.
The police had earlier refused the event in a letter from Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Anant Mittal to the organisers. It said the application to hold the Delhi leg of the singer’s Aura India Tour could not be accepted in view of specific threat-related inputs, security and law and order commitments during the festive season, and other law and order concerns, The Hindu reported. The organisers had applied on October 14.
Ticketing partner BookMyShow Live then met the police. “We have held a cordial and constructive meeting with Delhi Police and presented a detailed plan addressing the required arrangements. We have assured the authorities of full compliance with all applicable security, traffic and crowd-management requirements,” it said in a statement.
“Following these discussions and the submission of the requisite plan, permission for the event has been reconsidered and issued,” BookMyShow Live told The Hindu, adding that reports that the concert had been cancelled were “inaccurate”.
The police had set conditions for the show, including on the number of private security guards and crowd management, and permission came after the organisers agreed to meet them, India Today reported. Dosanjh’s team had kept promoting the Delhi date on social media while the clearance was pending.
Delhi is the opening stop of the India leg of the Aura Tour, which follows the singer’s concerts in Europe and North America. The tour then moves to Indore on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 21, Mumbai on November 27, Bengaluru on November 29 and Lucknow on December 5. A Chandigarh show has also been announced, but its date has not been confirmed.
