Well well, time to get away from the ‘high-on-marketing blockbusters’ and focus on an underrated gem. Buckle up, folks! Triangle of Sadness, the Swedish black comedy written and directed by the talented Ruben Östlund, has created quite a buzz among ardent cinephiles. This film is a wild ride that cleverly dissects the absurdities of class, wealth, and beauty, leaving us in stitches and inviting audiences to reflect on societal expectations.

The movie is about a luxury yacht full of ‘Richie Rich’ people who face an unexpected situation when a brutal storm hits the ship. Hold on to your hats because the movie’s satirical punches hit harder than a storm at sea. Triangle of Sadness takes pleasure in tearing down the super-rich and exposing their shallowness. Östlund effectively dismantles their pretentiousness, skillfully targeting these characters with biting humor. I don’t remember when class warfare was last shown to be this side-splittingly savage!

The movie further delves into the complex dynamics of beauty, unraveling both its blessings and pitfalls. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but in this film, it’s also a double-edged sword. Östlund fearlessly unravels these complexities, revealing its power to both elevate and destroy. The show makes us witness the characters’ desperate pursuit of physical perfection and the heavy toll it takes on their lives, pushing us to question the societal pressures imposed on appearance.

The uncomfortably hilarious dark humour makes us introspect while catching our breath

Itna hi nahi, the film’s dark and discomforting humor serves as a vehicle for introspection, unapologetically exposing the darker aspects of human nature. There’s some seriously uncomfortable laughter waiting for the audience! It dives into the depths of human flaws, leaving us gasping for air between fits of laughter. Prepare for an unapologetic exploration of our collective absurdities that will leave you equal parts amused and disturbed.

Östlund’s directorial wizardry is on full display in Triangle of Sadness. His sharp and witty style masterfully balances satire and humor, crafting a captivating and engaging narrative. But the cherry on the cake is the exceptional performances the movie benefits from. Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean shine as the fashion model couple caught in this chaotic storm, delivering performances that are both captivating and hilarious. Kudos to the whole cast for bringing Östlund’s vision to life!

The unsatisfying climax makes the audience want more from this near-perfect film

With this movie checking all the right boxes, the only elephant in the room is the final act, aka the climax. While Triangle of Sadness is a wild and uproarious ride, the climax may leave you wanting more, as some ideas are introduced but not fully explored. It’s like eating a whole Cornetto but not getting the last bite. Despite this criticism, the movie remains a compelling social satire, encouraging viewers to question societal expectations and norms.

Triangle of Sadness is a wickedly funny and thought-provoking gem that takes no prisoners. Östlund’s masterful direction and the stellar performances from the cast make this an unforgettable cinematic experience. Sure, the narrative may hit a few snags, but the laughs, the insights, and the uncomfortable truths make it all worthwhile. It is a daring and rewarding film that lingers in the mind, prompting reflection on its provocative themes and dark humor.
