For those who don’t know, Breathe: Into the Shadows streaming now on Amazon Prime is a suspense thriller series starring Amit Sadh, Nithya Menen, and who?? OG Abhishek Bachchan. Say what you will, but I’ve always admired him as a person, and I was so, so glad to hear him FINALLY getting a meaty role that he absolutely deserves.
Unlike the previous season, this one is based in Delhi, and by God, Delhi ke aise aesthetic shots dekh kar thoda sa jag suuna suna lag raha tha. (siiigh)
More often than not, it takes a while to get invested in a show. You know, that “Oh shit” moment when something inside clicks and you know you’re gonna bingewatch it. If you like suspense thrillers, you might get that moment in the first episode itself.
Much like the previous season, this one also revolves around the theme that a parent can do anything for their child, and by anything, I mean, kuch zyada hi karliya is season mei lol.
Abhishek & Nithya Menen’s daughter gets kidnapped and the poor couple has to wait 9 months before they hear for the first time from the kidnapper, who wants an unusual sort of ransom from them… no more plot spoilers here !!!
The show has some REALLY gut-wrenching scenes to watch. What they lose in quantity of the scenes against the previous season, they make up for in intensity of the scenes & how coldblooded the murders really look. And what Horror-Psycho Thriller show is complete without a child reciting a poem in a creepy way?
~Nothing here, just a mandatory Amit Sadh appreciation segment ~
Came to watch it for Abhishek Bachchan but also stayed for Amit Sadh! he literally breathes Breathe to life with his effortless acting and phenomenal screen presence. He pulls off the role of inspector Kabir perfectly. No, really, he’s at his friggin’ best!
His power-packed performance is the heart of the show & you may or may not have a crush on him by the end of the season:)))
Ok I kinda sort a maybeeee saw that -twist coming in the 5th episode but it still got me like “Suddenness!!!! The sheer suddenness of the move!!!! The unexpected nature of the move!! The unpredictability of the move!!”
After the big reveal midway, the show becomes slow, but the story pick back up again and manages to keep one hooked with a mythological twist.
The acting by everyone is par excellence here. What lacks in the narrative is the slow pace at places, which is made up by the outstanding performances by the actors. Abhishek Bachchandelivers an effortless performance, definitely one of his best in recent times. Nithya Menen is also just as good if not better!
The Chemistry between Prakash and Jay Prakash is absolutely beautiful and has all my heart! and Saiyami Kher even though her role is a little less than what I/we would have wanted, she plays her part really well and odds some depth to the story.
Final thought: it’s not a masterpiece, no sir, but it’s still a pretty damn good weekend watch because of dem twists and stellar performances. Aur kuch nahi toh Amit Sadh definitely makes it worth it!!!!
