The International Book Fair 2020 has started in Pragati Maidan Delhi and is going crazy like each year with a lot for book-nerds and book hoarders. So, if you are going this year, do not forget to check these Indian writers out.
1. Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy
Its basically owning up to its title, with 2 characters having a clash with India’s traditions and social stature. Eventually their stories meet and show how happiness is perceived differently by different people.
2. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri:
This book has already been adapted into a movie and casts Tabu and Irrfan Khan in it. Also, Kal Penn! This book is a ride of emotions where you feel yourself living through the pages of the book.
3. Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna:
This book is reminder that ordinary moments in our life can make a lot of sense. And, it also has a lot of humour. And lots of wisdom!
4. Train to Pakistan by Khushwant Singh:
This book is just a plethora of horror and emotions that partition brought. We feel like we are living through each character.
5. The Inheritance of Loss:
This book has received the Booker prize in 2006 which is awarded internationally to the best novel each year. This book is a plethora of emotions and tells us a lot about small and beautiful towns of Sikkim.
6. A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth:
This book is getting adapted into a mini-series so read it before it hits a streaming site. As the name goes, a family is searching for the suitable boy for their daughter. It’s a love story and shall leave you breathless.
7. Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni:
This book is by far the best mythological rendition I have read through. You read Mahabharata from Draupadi’s point of view and understand the cost of survival in a patriarchal world.
8. The Krishna Key by Ashwin Sanghi:
This book has to be one of the best anthropological thrillers that has been written in India. You feel like you’re going through a Dan Brown novel but its much more relatable because you have been brought up listening to those mythologies.
9. Shiva Trilogy series by Amish Tripathi:
This trilogy series was on the top of the best sellers list with it breaking several records during its launch. One of the most thrilling series ever!
