Alrighttt, this time we have something new. A Jason Statham movie where he kills people left, right, and centre and you love to see him do it. Wait… ye thobra kidhar sunela lagta hai. That’s because ye thobda infact sunela haiii. It’s time for another one of those Jason Statham movies where he kicks ass, and we happily feed on the adrenaline. This time though, it is against those white collared fcks who scam people online and disappear without a trace. And while the movie is a vv popcorn dumb fun, mindless watch, you can’t stop but think– what’s new???
Plot
Okay, so here’s the deal w the story: Adam Clay is a calm, composed, good boy-type beekeeper enjoying his life in the countryside. His best friend is a cutu oldie named Eloise, jinke barn mein Adam beekeeping karta hai. Sab sahi chal raha hota hai until one day, Eloise gets screwed over by online scammers. She not only loses her money but also the two million she was handling for a children’s charity, and sadly ends up taking her own life. And then we get to see the real Adam. The guy sets off on a rampage to take down these guys, right from low-level scammers to big-shot corporate jerks. Wahi doosre taraf, Eloise’s daughter, Verona, an FBI agent is trying to do things bY tHe LaW, but Statham’s not in the mood for it, and so are we. Cybercrime meets mindfck action, and the result is pretty entertaining.
Performances
Now, this is literally Jason Statham‘s bread and butter, so there’s no way he can go wrong about it. He absolutely kills it as Adam Clay, the silent but deadly beekeeper out for revenge. He’s just getting better at these action films, and honestly, I’m not complaining. Baaki ki cast ka anyway zyada impact hai nahi. Phylicia Rashad is a cutie-pie as Eloise, and trust me you’re gonna feel really bad for what happens to her. Emmy Raver-Lampman does a decent job as Verona, Eloise’s daughter. But the villains? Mehhh. Just there and feel too weak in front of Statham’s personality. Yeah, you’re gonna hate their guts, but you never really feel there’s any competition in there.
Direction and Writing
These sorts of movies can hardly go wrong. I mean, kya hi galat ho sakta hai? The worst that can happen is you can drag the film and make it tiring. But don’t worry, that’s not the case with this one. David Ayer, the director, delivers the grit and intensity we all expect from Statham’s films. Also, just don’t expect anything new from the story. It is the same old ‘Jason Statham saves the world from bad guys’ movie… it’s disappointing. But it is not like I don’t want him to watch in such films anymore, idk weird feeling hai. But the action is just toooo funnn to watch and the adrenaline rush is real. Go w your friends and you’ll come back w a sore throat lmao.
Screenplay and Cinematography
The movie does a good job of keeping you hooked on the story. The dialogues are punchy, and the subtle humor works vv well. The action scenes are well shot, and thanks to the editing, there aren’t 27 cuts in a 5-second shot that gives you a seizure. I don’t get why editors do that, it just doesn’t work. Just keep it simple like they did it here, and you’ll find the audience at the edge of their seats. The contrast bw the calm countryside and the grimy underbelly of the city is v nicely captured too. But while the action is pretty dope, the bg music that aims at adding another layer of fun really disappoints. Was expecting better stuff, but it’s okay I guess.
So, should you watch “The Beekeeper” for some popcorn dumb fun and cheap thrills? Absolutely. But should you watch it if you’re looking for a fresh action movie? Definitely not (thala for a reason). It’s got everything you want in a badass action flick: a kickass lead, a gripping story, and enough twists and turns, but originality toh bilkul nahi hai. You can go with your friends, but don’t go for the OTT release, it won’t be fun.
