Sheikh Ateeq, a student from Jammu and Kashmir with “Indian occupied Kashmir” as his location on Twitter reached out to Sushma Swaraj on Twitter from Philippines.
He asked external affairs minister to help him get a new passport. He said he needed to get back “home, India” for a medical checkup. “I am from J&K doing medicine course here in Philippines my passport got damaged I applied for new one 1 month ago I request you please help me to get it as i literally need to go home for medical checkup.”
He had also asked her for help a month before. “Dear ma’am @SushmaSwaraj I greatly need your help. Is there anything you can do to rush the process of my passport as it is damaged. I need to get back to my home, India. My health is deteriorating and I cannot shoulder the expenses any more as I’m a student.”
Sushma Swaraj is the quintessential combination of kindness and savagery. She couldn’t resist the golden opportunity to school the kid about political geography before helping him. “If you are from J&K state, we will definitely help you. But your profile says you are from ‘Indian occupied Kashmir’. There is no place like that.”
He quickly corrected his location to “Jammu & Kashmir/ manila.” Swaraj acknowledged the correction and asked the Indian embassy in Manila to help him out.
The kid has since deleted his Twitter profile.
