Here’s to the incredible lady, Sakshi Malik, who finally ended India’s drought at Rio Olympics 2016. Thank you.

We are no strangers to the fact that India’s performance has been a little rocky at Rio Olympics. So many Olympians finished fourth that it almost felt like India had taken Arsenal’s curse. But last night our very own lady Sultan, Sakshi Malik from Haryana, uplifted the curse and ended India’s drought at Rio Olympics.

India almost lost hope when Sakshi had gone down 0-5 at the end of the first round but then she fought back harder than ever. And well, not even Aisuluu Tynybekova could save herself from “Lady Sultan ka daanv.” Sakshi won 8-5 at the end.

I was all along confident and always felt I would win. I did not back down and kept pushing. This is historic for Indian women wrestlers. It is the result of over ten years of hard work. I feel proud and special that I could get this medal for India.

India is proud of you too, Sakshi. More than you know.

This is beautiful

Thank you, Sakshi Malik. For bringing India together and making us cheer for a sport other than cricket. Most of all,  thank you for not giving up. We’re very proud of you!
