Directed by Prosit Roy, ‘Pari: Not A Fairy Tale’ is Bollywood’s supernatural thriller starring Anushka Sharma, Parambrata Chatterjee and Rajat Kapoor.
While Hollywood often tries to experiment with the horror genre, Indian directors still prefer sticking to the age old horror genre clichés of rattling windows, unnecessary jump scares, thunders, and screams. But Pari tries to be something different and interesting.
It’s also good to see a mainstream Bollywood actor trying something different and risky, which, again, we don’t often see it happen in Bollywood industry.
However, Pari is generating a highly polarizing reactions on its first day.
Critics are appreciating Pari for taking the unconventional path, but they are also pointing out the uneven tone of the movie. Movie switches genre in the second half and loses its eerie touch.

While a lot of people think Pari is one of the best supernatural thrillers to come out of Bollywood in recent years.
Just saw the most disturbing Bollywood horror movie in years. Can’t take those queasy visuals out of my mind. @AnushkaSharma sheds her bubbly and glam image to terrify the hell out of us. Also appreciate her for backing such a movie. I root for her as a producer! #Pari

No jarring background score or cliched jump scares. Gripping, chilling, atmospheric and just the right amount of eerie silence makes #pari quite creepy, a rare feat for an Indian horror film. Spellbinding performances by @AnushkaSharma & @paramspeak Liked the film.

*breathes sigh of relief* No second half curse.
Pari is the first good mainstream Bollywood film of 2018. The filmmaker completely respects the genre and doesnt include any stupid scene to please the crowd.
Anushka’s best film as a producer! Definitely recommended.

But the critics are trashing the movie. It might hurt its growth over the week.
#Pari has *some* genuinely scary/eerie/terrifying moments that startle you… The film works in bits and spurts – not in entirety… Screenwriting is patchy and lacks the punch… Also, the gore and gruesome portions are off-putting…

But despite all those flaws, Pari is still one of the best Bolllywood horror movies in a very long.
Just saw #Pari. Not the horror masterpiece I was hoping for but still it had a lot going for it. @AnushkaSharma was just excellent in it. I give it marks for some originality & trying to bring uniqueness to the horror movie genre especially in Bollywood. (3/5) #MovieReview
