Delhi feels straight out of Mad Max: Fury Road film, the post apocalyptic feels are real, Air Quality Index is skyrocketing and people are breathing the toxic air full of harmful chemicals instead of oxygen. It was about time an Oxygen Bar opened in Delhi, and now it has. First oxygen bar ‘Oxy Pure’ recently launched in Delhi’s Select City Mall, for people who want to breathe 90% pure oxygen with Aroma Therapy for recreational purposes. #JustDelhiThings, am I right?
Um, actually, no. Although this concept of Oxygen Bars is totally new in a country like India, but it actually started back in the late 90’s in the US. Oxygen Bar is actually pretty common at fitness centers, airports, gyms, sports complexes, and malls in European Countries.
In the 15-minute session, you get to breathe 90% pure oxygen at a low/medium/high pressure (depends on your sensitivity to the oxygen level) with different aromas such as Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemongrass, etc which all have different uses. Lavender usually helps with your anxiety and sleep disorders, lemongrass gives you instant energy and feel-good vibes, and so on.
You breathe the oxygen from a nasal cannula which may seem a little intimidating at first, but it gets pretty comfortable and chill after like 30 seconds, also if you pretend you’re Hazel Grace from The Fault In Our Stars, it feels pretty cool.
What do you do you then? sit and breathe normally like you do for 15 mins and that’s it.
Recreational oxygen bars across the world usually claim that 10 to 15 min session of oxygen therapy boosts energy & concentration levels, relieves stress, helps with sleep disorders, cures hangovers, jetlags and basically makes you feel good.
However, they also say that people with respiratory or any other health condition should consult a doctor first, because it’s beneficial for some types of conditions.
The cost is INR 300+ per session. If you go to Select City Mall the next time, you should check it out!
