Keeping you at the edge of your seat, biting your nails, and shaking your legs in anticipation of the murder is humari staple diet at this point, isn’t it? Ab apni boring zindagi mein thrill laane ka best option toh yahi hai na. But what if your best option turns out to be one of the most boring 2 hours and 15 minutes you’ve ever experienced? But you know, I’m a nice person so I don’t want you to go through it in the first place. And that’s why I’m here, talking about ‘Murder Mubarak’. Want me to keep it short? One of the most disappointing movies out there with such a huge star cast that fails to keep you hooked except for the first fifteen minutes.
Plot
The plot takes predictable twists and turns as the detective, our very own Pankaj ji, delves deeper into the backstories of the wedding guests, uncovering secrets, hidden motives, and potential suspects. The film keeps you guessing who the criminal may be… if you don’t fall asleep before the interval that is. Accha okay okay chalo, there were some positives as well. The movie was not only about the murders but also an accurate AF representation of high-class families. It was like hearing mummy talk about papa ka side of the family — shocking and well… HILARIOUS. If you’ve often caught yourself eavesdropping on family drama during big weddings, you’ll relate to quite a few scenes. At one point of time, the fingers were pointed towards the bride and groom, and I just went???? (I mean I would totally be partners in crime with my future spouse..but not like, LITERALLY..or would I be? :PP)
Performance
To begin with, Tripathi sirji ate and left no crumbs. Matlab what do I even say, it is just a normal day at the office for him now. He brought a raw comic timing to this loony mystery, that bores more than thrills. Very different from the cliched detectives you see in movies. Tbh, he really carried the movie. Also, that whole romantic tension thing bw him and Karisma Kapoor was just so funny. Their romance had much more electricity than what was observed between Sara Ali Khan and Vijay Varma… which was like cringing over “Love Storiyaan” in Kesariya for 2 hours straight. Sanjay Kapoor was good only but Dimple Kapadia and Tisca Chopra were so badly under-utilized. Overall, the performances were a hit and a miss.
Direction and Writing
You get a lot of “Being Cyrus” vibes from the movie. Also makes sense, considering it is from the same director. But, the point is, this one isn’t half as good as “Being Cyrus”. Except for the first fifteen minutes or so, the movie is straight-up boring. You know how they extend one small incident for like four episodes? That’s how the writing in Murder Mubaarak feels like. Just too stretched and diluted. Some of the characters are simply useless, like why would you wanna extend your budget by adding them??? They serve absolutely no purpose to the story. Same for a lot of plot points. They’re just there for you to scratch your heads in desperation. And when you actually get to a point where the plot moves forward, it is predictable at first glance. And don’t even get me started on the epic fail of the climax. Had a lot of expectations from this movie, but very very disappointed in the end.
Screenplay and Cinematography
I don’t think I can write much about the screenplay cuz I was kinda dozing off while watching the movie. Oh, I think that tells you enough, doesn’t it? Itni boring kaise ho sakti hai bhai ek murder comedy??? The pacing is wayyy off— why are some of the most irrelevant scenes so damn long? Yes, the comedy works in bits, but that’s it. The cinematography is okay-ish. I mean if most of your film is shot inside a hotel, there’s hardly anything for the camera to stand out. But nah man, with such a powerful star cast that has an amazing screen presence, you definitely want much more.
Meri baat maano and skip karo pls. I know it feels very tempting to watch all the OGs on screen again, but no, just no. This isn’t worth your time. You might not realize how disappointed I am, but trust me, the pain is real. They really did make a mess out of the movie.
