If you have been wondering why Jio Institute is trending on the internet all of a sudden, it’s because the HRD Ministry recently awarded Institution of Eminence (IoE) status to six educational institutes: IIT-Delhi, IIT-Bombay, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), BITS-Pilani, Manipal Academy of High Education and *drum rolls* Reliance Foundation’s Jio Institute.
Except Jio Institute doesn’t physically exist.. yet. It’s just proposed by Reliance Foundation and exists only in the form of letter of Intent.
People on the internet can’t wrap their heads around why a proposed institute would qualify for such a prestigious tag. They are taking it to Twitter to mock the decision by taking digs at the central government and the Ambani’s.
Especially, this parody handle of Jio Institute that has surfaced on the internet. It’s extremely hilarious and going viral on the internet.
However, The HRD ministry acknowledged the social media trolling and issued a clarification “in response to some misinformation campaign in social media regarding Institutes of Eminence” by answering commonly raised questions.
