2017 was another great year for Hollywood blockbuster movies at the Indian Box Office. And it’s also clear from the numbers that Indian audience is gradually choosing to watch Hollywood movies more often than Bollywood movies. It’s probably because of the deteriorating quality of Bollywood movies coupled with the exposure to the pop culture. International production houses have also noticed the gradual shift and they are now choosing to spend more and more money to market their movies in India. Let’s hope this realization will push Bollywood to experiment more and make better movies in the future.

22. Coco

Coco started out poorly, but the great word of mouth helped this movie in the second week. It’s also the highest rated movie on IMDB in the year 2017. Collection: 9.65 crore

21. Kingsman: the golden circle

The hype was high with the sequel of Kingsman, but turns out, it didn’t do too well at the Indian box office. Collection: 10.8 crore

20. Cars 3

Cars 3 started out fantastic but the poor word of mouth sealed its fate in the second week. Collection: 10.8 crore

19. Baywatch

Priyanka Chopra’s role in the Baywatch pushed Indian audience to watch it, but the poor reviews didn’t help. Collection: 14 crore

18. The Boss Baby

A surprising success at the worldwide box office and Indian box office as well. Collection: 14.9 crore

17. War for the planet of the apes

The final movie of the trilogy deserved more given its amazing reviews, but it clashed with Bollywood giants and hence, couldn’t survive at the Box Office for long. Collection: 16.3 crore

16. Despicable me 3

Indians just LOVE minions, and it’s clear from the numbers at the box office. Collection: 18.69 crore

15. Dunkirk

As it turns out, even India is swarming with Nolan fanboys. Nolan’s cinematic masterpiece was successful in bringing Indian audience to the movie screens. Collection: 21.33 crore

14. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t as popular as other Marvel movies, but it still did way better than 90% of Bollywood movies. Collection: 21.8 crore

13. Kong: Skull Island

King Kong or Godzilla, Indian audience loves to watch Hollywood’s CGI monsters. Hence, a decent collection at the box office. Collection: 22.5 crore

12. Beauty and the Beast

Last year Disney’s live-action Jungle Book broke the record to be the highest grossing Hollywood movie in India. This year they released Beauty and the Beast. It didn’t do just as good, but it’s still great. Collection: 26.78 crore

11. Wonder Woman

Started out poorly, but the positive word of mouth and amazing reviews pushed the audience to experience DC’s Wonder Woman at the big screen. Collection: 29 crore

10. Transformers: The Last Knight

Michael Bay. CGI. Explosions. Three words enough to bring audience to the big screens. Collection: 30 crore

9. Logan

Everyone knew this was Hugh Jackman’s last movie as Wolverine, and you can’t expect people to not go and bid him a final goodbye at the movies. *sobs silently* Collection: 33 crore

8. Justice League

The movie DC fans have been waiting for since the dawn of civilization. It wasn’t as great as they expected, but it still scored better than 90% Bollywood movies this year. Collection: 35 crore

7. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Captain Jack Sparrow has a great following in India, thanks to Disney’s marketing. Dead Men Tell No Tales wasn’t great, but people still lined up to watch Sparrow do the same shiz all over again. Collection: 36 crore.

6. Annabelle 2

Bollywood horror movies are a big joke, and it’s no wonder Indians are crazy about the Conjuring universe. Collection: 44.5 crore

5. The Mummy

The biggest surprise on the list. The reviews were pathetic, the hype wasn’t strong. I have no idea how it managed to conjure this much at the Indian box office. Collection: 45 crore

4. XXX: Return of Xander Cage

Vin Diesel came to India to promote this movie with Deepika Padukone. And the result isn’t a bit surprising. Collection: 51.6 crore

3. Spider-man: Homecoming

India LOVES Spider-man. Coupled with Marvel’s marketing, this movie was bound to break records. Collection: 73 crore

2. Thor: Ragnarok

Taika Waititi’s tonal shift in Thor’s solo movie coupled with fantastic reviews pushed the Indian audience to spend a few bucks. Collection: 74.64 crore

1. The Fate of the Furious

Furious 7 was the highest earning Hollywood movie in India until last year. It’s clear Indians love Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and this franchise. Collection: 127 crore
