‘Tis the time for romcom guysss! That’s right, time to feel wholesome AND single at the same time. And this one also makes you feel the FOMO of experiencing nature. Matlab insaan kyu hi dekhe phir ye movie lmao. Let’s talk about “Happiness for Beginners,” a romcom that serves up love, laughter, and some serious soul-searching. Get ready to join Helen (played by the awesome Ellie Kemper) on her wild adventure to hit the reset button on life! Buckle up, ’cause we’re in for a fun ride!
Plot
So the story is about Helen, an English teacher with a hidden emotional baggage stash from her divorce and a heartbreaking loss. She’s having a real hard time until she decides it’s time to turn her life around. So, she signs up for a wilderness survival course, thanks to some pesky encouragement from her little bro, Duncan (played by Alexander Koch, who’s just adorable). But obviously there’s a surprise. Jake (Luke Grimes), Duncan’s best bud and a former doc, is also on the trip. Awkward, yes. Classic romcom setup, am I right? And as they hike along the Appalachian Trail, the sparks fly, and the tension brews, but you know how this is gonna end, don’t you?
Performances
Okay first things first, Ellie Kemper is JUST SO ADORABLE as Helen! She’s not just all sunshine and rainbows this time; there’s depth and complexity to the character. And Luke Grimes as Jake? Charm overdose. But I really wish he was written better; he just feels so mysterious ki for a moment I thought he might just be a serial killer. But otherwise, these two make a dynamite pair that’ll have you rooting for love from the get-go. But what I really love is how the supporting cast isn’t just playing second fiddle here. Nico Santos, Shayvawn Webster, and Gus Birney all shine in their quirky roles, adding layers of fun and heart to the mix. Oh, and Blythe Danner, she’s an absolute treasure! You’ll have an instant smile during her scenes!
Direction and Writing
Vicky Wight knows how to serve up a romcom that hits all the right spots. She keeps things bright and engaging, with enough room for heartwarming moments and some soul-searching. And let’s not forget about the writing – witty, funny, and just the right amount of feels. It’s like the perfect romcom cocktail! But I have to warn you- it feels very ‘yeah yeah ye sab toh kitne baar dekha hai, what’s new?’. So if you are looking for unpredictability, this is definitely not your movie.
Screenplay and Cinematography
The screenplay brings out the best of romcom charm with witty banter and fun but predictable twists. You’ll be laughing and “aww”-ing at the same time. The dialogues are sharp and witty, and everything feels spot on. And obviously, if the movie is about a hike through nature, cinematography toh visually stunning hogi hi. Daniel Vecchione takes us on a visual feast of New England’s fall colors. The visuals enhance the film’s overall experience, making it feel like a journey worth taking. Please mujhe bhi hiking le chalo– kya matlab mere 6 digit UPI pin wale bank account mein sirf 2 digit numbers hai?
So get ready to embrace gratitude, love, and happiness – they’re all waiting for you guyssss! Whether you’re down for a real-life hike or just a stroll in the neighborhood, this movie will leave you smiling and inspired. Ellie Kemper’s shining performance, the laughs, the love, and those breathtaking landscapes make this one hike worth taking. So add it to your romcom watchlist, and if you miss it, no worries – you’re not missing too much, but you’ll be missing out on some heartfelt fun! Cheers to happiness and love, and remember, life itself is a survival course to find these two. Anyway, I’ll go back to putting ‘me n who’ stories :”)
