Bollywood has come up with a new trend of remaking some old gems and using them for movies. Some remakes have been a total crap show but like not all remakes suck !
So here’s a list of some Bollywood remake songs that are actually pretty good.
This absolute gem recreated from Mr. India. Sung by Suman Shridhar and just like the original, it celebrated the femininity displayed in the movie. One of my favorite remakes, can literally listen to it on loop for hours. Fill your heart with happy vibes! 🙂
Gazab ka hai Din
Uffff. Kitne cute gaana hai, pehle wala bhl aur ab wala aur bhi. I am sure that someone who doesn’t know that it is a remake would love this song in the first go! 🙂
Originally belongs to Asha Bhosle, from 1973’s Anhonee. Cut to 2014’s Queen and it was all about a Kangana Ranaut wreaking havoc in Paris and having the time of her life. This recreation took the original from a standard cabaret song to a song about liberation amazing.
Teri Khair Mangdi
Originally sung by Bilal Saeed, recreated in the movie Baar Baar Dekho. While the original is fast paced, the remake is slow, mellow and lets you think and introspect. Also, you tend to realise the lyrics suit better in the slow version.
Gud Naal Ishq Mitha
The original song, made in 1997 was the shadi song of that time and the remade version, 2019 was the shadi song of the season! No complaints. The energy of the song remains infections.
Khoya Khoya Chand
The original song came out in 1960, sung by Mohammed Rafi. And the only remake that was able to give it a new spin was in the severely under-appreciated Shaitan. Remake done so well in one of the best slo-mo sequences I’ve watched in a Bollywood film!
I know most of us wouldn’t even know that it’s a remake. Coz Ayushmann Khurrana sang so well but it is a traditional ages old punjabi folk song sung by vetran singer late Surinder Kaur in 1950s. Only harcore old souls will know this.
Din Shagna Da
This iconic song, trademarked for dulhan ki entry is now replaced by a very beautiful version of the same song by Jasleen Royal. The song has not lost its essence, the feel is right and of course, it played on Anushka Sharma’s entry on her wedding. Saree promotion bhi ho gai.
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha
I did not listen to this song for the longest time and avoided everytime it played on TV, radio or on the internet coz I knew it’ll ruin the original version for me. Turned out it didn’t. It was while watching the movie I realised, why can’t a girl sing “ek ladki ko dekha toaisa laga” to a girl.
Some of these remakes really did recreate the magic of the original songs and didn’t disappoint us unlike the rest. Here’s to hoping if any more remakes come for Bollywood songs, they come in such beautiful forms.
