Do you guys remember the frenzy Dune brought with itself back in 2021?? People had gone absolutely madddd. And trust me, it isn’t an exaggeration when I say that this time they’re gonna go batshit crazy again. Because Dune 2 is JUST SO GOOD MAN. If you thought the first one was epic, well, hold onto your seats because this sequel takes everything up a notch. There’s always a curse of the second part when it comes to movies and shows, but not this time guys. Denis Villeneuve isn’t holding back, and trust me, you won’t want to miss a second of it! Try to not blink, because every second of this movie is just *chef’s kiss*!
Plot
So, remember where we left off? Yeah, right after the House Atreides got royally betrayed (can’t get those visuals off my head… absolute pain). “Dune 2” picks right up from there and just goes 100x into the crazy politics and power struggles of Arrakis. And ofc everyone is going ‘kuch toh gadbad hai Daya’ on Paul Atreides and his mother for obvious reasons. But you gotta feel for Paul… bro is just trying to find an identity of his own while facing some serious heat by the Fremen and Harkonnen. This whole narrative reminds me of GOT so mucfh, I can talk at length about it. Loyalty, betrayal, sab kuch hai bhai. The first movie was all about the set up, and this one was all about the execution. And the way all of it has been woven executed- Dennis sir ko ek Roadies salute toh bannta hai.
Performances
Look, when you have almost all your cast filled w OGs, there’s absolutely no way the performances can fck up. Timothée Chalamet is the real winner and anyone who disagrees is not my friend from this point onward. You look at him and you feel ‘ye kaha se authoritative figure bann payega’… until you see him shout ‘Silence!’ and roar at the top of his lungs to address his people. Pure goosebumps… just pure goosebumps. And Zendaya? She didn’t have a lot to do in the first movie, but is waale mein you can actually see her acting range. Aur bhai if Austin Butler’s character comes in front of me… you can bet your life I’ll shit my pants. Bro was asked to play a maniac, and he completely ate it. Legit every single actor nails their role, adding so much depth to the already amazing storytelling.
Direction and Writing
Tbh, before Dune, I used to consider Denis Villeneuve to be a good director. But he’s right up there along the likes of Tarantino, Scorsese and Nolan at this point. What a frickking mastermind. His direction in “Dune 2” is like watching poetry in motion. The attention to detail, the use of practical effects to make everything even more real, the way he presents the story, it is all just perfect… down to the last minute detail. And the writing is so gripping– literally keeps you on the edge of your seat. But one thing- if you’re going for this movie expecting full on action and all, you’ll be disappointed cuz it is only towards the end. The writers had the job of building things up in the first movie, and they nailed it. And now it was time to pay off, and they nailed it once again. This almost feels like a dream. Sab kaise perfect ho sakta hai? No wonder it was the highest rated IMDb movie even before it released!
Screenplay and Cinematography
Easily the best part about the movie. Yeah, some people might find it a little stretched, but if you go in w an open mind to enjoy the visuals and the background score when the plot isn’t doing much, you’ll absolutely fall in love with it. The screenplay builds up the finale in such a beautiful way, you’re almost annoyed to get to the last bit. There’s action, drama, and enough twists to keep you guessing, and all your assumptions about the plot are going to be destroyed lmaooo. And Greig Fraser’s cinematography? An absolute treat for your eyes. ISTG, the number of posters im gonna buy once they’re in stock is insane. The way he captures the harsh beauty of Arrakis and the intensity of the characters’ struggles is just mesmerizing. You NEED to watch it on the biggest screen possible!
In a nutshell, THIS IS CINEMAAA! “Dune 2” is the kind of movie that leaves you breathless from start to finish. I dont think I can emphasize on this point enough that you really really need to watch this one. It is only March but I’m sure it is going to be in my top 5 movies this year. One hell of an experience. 10/10 recommended. Oscars toh pakka sweep kardegi ye!
