In this era of remakes, the mere fact that there is an original movie out there intrigues me. And this one actually entertains you too. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga makes you wanna believe in Bollywood’ originality again, and brings the guilty pleasure in the form of Abbas-Mustan like twists to leave you with a sly smile. Director Ajay Singh in his Hindi debut, daringly combines the worlds of heist and hijacking, creating a non-stop joyride that will leave you breathless. Sure, the story may have its share of fck ups and the screenplay may stumble at times, but trust me, this movie is a whole lot of fun!
Plot
So, Neha Grover (Yami Gautam), a flight attendant, falls head over heels for a charming passenger named Ankit Sethi (Sunny Kaushal). And like how every other Bollywood movie goes, they fall in love and before you know it, Neha is pregnant. But ye sab hone ke baad Ankit decides to reveal that he owes a hefty sum to a loan shark. Bass phir kya, Ankit and Neha team up to steal a load of diamonds during a flight from Al-Barkat to New Delhi. So far, so good. Well, put your seatbelts on because things take a crazy turn when they realize the courier they need to steal from is a not on the plane. And… the airplane has been hijacked by a bunch of terrorists. Yes, I know. Will they be able to pull off the heist amidst the chaos? You’ll have to watch to find out!
Performances
Checking all the boxes here, the actors put up an amazing performance. Yami Gautam shines as Neha, the fearless flight attendant trying to keep her cool amidst the chaos. Her expressions are spot on, and she undoubtedly is the show stealer. And let’s not forget Sunny Kaushal, who brings his A-game as Ankit, the desperate boyfriend with a knack for getting into trouble. However, while their individual performances are spot on, you fail to feel the chemistry between them, just the way their love story doesn’t sit right. The supporting cast, including Sharad Kelkar as the macho-man investigative officer and Indraneil Sengupta as the flight marshal, also deliver commendable performances that keep the adrenaline pumping. Wanted more of Sharad and Indraneil though, but okay.
Direction and Writing
Director Ajay Singh keeps a tight grip on the film’s direction. He knows exactly how to keep the audience engaged and at the edge of their seats. Time se pehle nothing is revealed, and you keep munching on your popcorn anxiously. Sure, the writing is not all perfect, but don’t worry, the fast pace and thrilling ride make up for it. But the real show stealer is THAT twist. ISTG, no one saw that coming. This movie is not meant to be serious, and that’s how the makers have treated the narrative. The writing has loopholes, but you easily exchange them for the entertainment you get lmao.
Screenplay and Cinematography
Hold onto your popcorns, because this screenplay is a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns! Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga makes sure you aren’t bored, by going ‘idhar chala main udhar chala’ in time, leaving us dying for more surprises. Sure, some things may seem a bit too convenient, but let’s be honest, who cares when we’re having this much fun? Gianni Giannelli’s cinematography adds a serious and gritty vibe that adds to the thrill, making you feel like you’re right there in the plane, racing against time. And the fact that there’s layers and layers of twists, you never really know what’s true and what’s not.
Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is neither just a heist movie, nor is it just a hostage thriller. It’s both, and it works. Sure, the story may have its flaws and the screenplay may stumble here and there, but it feels like that fresh watch we have all been yearning for. So, grab your popcorn, fasten your seatbelts, and get ready for an adrenaline-fueled adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is a wild ride that’s definitely worth taking!
