Transformers movie franchise might have gone downhill over the years, but it still have enough international hype to go for a spin-off movie – Bumblebee.
Finally, a Transformers film that is not directed by Michael Bay. The movie, as the name suggests, will focus on the adventures of the much-loved yellow Autobot – Bumblebee. Earlier reports suggested that the spin-off will not be as grand and “explosive” as other Transformers movie and the official teaser kinda proves it.
Watch the teaser for Bumblebee here.
Set in the 80’s, a young woman finds Bumblebee in a pile of trash. As the trailer progresses, girl and Bumblebee slowly start bonding. There’s also brief appearance from Starscream.
The action scenes don’t look over the top like in other Transformer movies. Looks like they are focusing more on the characters this time than on high stakes like Earth ending or something. Which is one of the reasons I actually like the teaser and I’m excited to watch it on the big screen. It’s about time we got the Transformer movies we deserve.
The movie also features WWE Star John Cena and Jorge Lendeborg (Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Bumblebee was supposed to a spin-off in on-going Transformer universe, but latest reports suggest that they are actually looking to reboot the whole franchise after Transformers: The Last Knight bombed at the box office last year. If it’s true, I think it’s a good decision because current Transformer franchise has become redundant and boring.
I think they should focus more on the characterization than over the top stakes and CGI loaded action sequences. The official trailer for Bumblebee will shed more light on what they are going for. So far, the teaser has received a good response from the critics and audience.
The movie is scheduled to release this Christmas.
