Famous chef Atul Kochhar lost his contract with a Dubai Hotel ‘JW Marriott Marquis’ after he made Islamophobic remarks in response to Priyanka Chorpa’s tweet.
Priyanka Chopra had recently received flak for working in TV Show ‘Quantico’ that portrayed Indians as terrorists in recent episode. She tweeted out an apology for the same. However, Atul Kochhar took a dig at her, “It’s sad to see that you have not respected the sentiments of Hindus who have been terrorized by Islam over 2000 years. Shame on you.”
But it didn’t go down too well on Twitter either. People thought his tweet was insensitive and reeked of blatant Islamophobia. Assistant director of JW Marriott Marquis also released an official statement addressing the issue.
Following the recent comments made by chef Atul Kochhar, we have taken the decision to end our agreement with him for Rang Mahal. Chef Atul will no longer be associated with the restaurant and the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai.
We pride ourselves in creating a culture of diversity and inclusion for our guests and associates across the hotel and our restaurants. We also remain committed to delivering the traditional culinary experience and high service standards that Rang Mahal is renowned for.
However, Atul has since deleted that tweet and apologized to everyone for his insensitivity.
“There is no justification for my tweet … I fully recognize my inaccuracies that Islam was founded around 1,400 years ago and I sincerely apologies. I am not Islamophobic, I deeply regret my comments that have offended many,” he wrote.
