One of the movies that had me intrigued since the last year was “Argylle”. I mean, did you see the cast??? And trailer dekh kar it seemed like a real fun movie. But God I have never been so way off. Itna galat kaise ho sakta hoon main? It’s directed by Matthew Vaughn, the man behind the legendary Kingsman franchise. But, this one? It’s a rollercoaster ride, and definitely not in a good way. Seedhe shabdon mein kahu toh thank me cuz I watched it so that you don’t have to.
Plot
So the plot is interesting, but you’ve seen it before. It starts off kinda cool, with this famous author who writes about spies. And maza tab aata hai when she’s caught up in real-life espionage situations similar to her stories. But what seems to be a fun start to a movie quickly spirals into this mess of plot twists and turns that’ll leave your head spinning. Like, seriously, they throw so much at you, it’s hard to keep up. This is what happens when you juggle too many things at once– all of them fall.
Performances
I think this is the best example to tell people how a great cast doesn’t mean it’s gonna be an amazing movie. You got Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Henry Cavill, Samuel L Jackson— aur kaun chahiye tumko??? But here’s the thing: they’re all wasted on this hot mess of a script. Bryce tries her best, but she can only do so much with the material she’s given. And don’t even get me started on John Cena and Dua Lipa‘s cameos. Talk about missed opportunities… smh.
Direction and Writing
There’s something about Matthew Vaughn’s direction. Always stands out one way or another, and you absolutely love it. That’s the case with “Argylle” too. He is on point, as always. He definitely knows how to shoot action sequences that’ll make your jaw drop. But when it comes to the writing, it’s like they couldn’t decide if they wanted to make a serious spy flick or a parody of one. So, they tried to do both, and it just doesn’t work. The tone is all over the place, and you’re left wondering whatever the fck you just watched. I just don’t get what’s the point of being so conflicted. I can only imagine the result if he had just gone ahead with a full-fledged parody.
Screenplay and Cinematography
Pura mood kharab kar diya screenplay ne. It is simply a mess. The dialogues are cheesy as fck, it’s like you’re watching a 2000s teen movie. The plot is unnecessarily complicated and don’t even get me started on the CGI. Just horrible. There are some cool visuals here and there, but they’re overshadowed by all the other nonsense going on. And the action scenes? They start off awesome, but then they just get more and more ridiculous as the movie goes on. Also they’re like so fkin long that you lose the adrenaline by the time it ends. Nah, very very disappointing.
So yeah if it is not already clear, this movie is a literal skip for you. It’s got potential, sure, but it’s buried under a pile of bad writing, confused direction, and wasted talent. Kaafi expectations they isse, but damn I was so so wrong. One movie jo friends ke saath bakchodi karte karte bhi nahi dekhi jayegi. And if you’re hoping for something with substance, I wish you all the best.
