Do you guys ever have that one friend who always manages to surprise you with their crazy antics, leaving you in stitches and on the edge of your seat at the same time? Like you never know what’s next just because of the sheer unpredictability? That’s what Anirudh Iyer’s An Action Hero is. It is one heck of a rollercoaster ride that seamlessly blends heart-pounding action with belly-aching laughter.

More than just a revenge thrillerOTT Action, but looks convincing as the leads shine

This film is like a wild and wacky adventure that takes aim at fame, egos, and the absurdity of it all.

Manav, played by the ever-charming Ayushmann Khurrana is a larger-than-life action star who’s got the world at his feet. But when a shoot in Haryana goes awry and he accidentally knocks out the local bully, who of course turns out to be the brother of a local centripetal force Bhoora Solanki, who is a municipal councillor played by the talented Jaideep Ahlawat, Manav’s carefully-crafted career is in danger of going up in smoke.

To escape the mess he’s landed in, Manav escapes to London (a certain RCB owner has entered the chat), hoping to lay low until the storm blows over. Little does he know, Bhoora is hot on his trail, thirsting for revenge and with a determination that could rival a cheetah on Red Bull. And so begins a chase that’s more exhilarating than a carnival ride, with each twist and turn leaving you breathless and begging for more.

But this ain’t your average cat-and-mouse game. Oh no, it’s a battle of wits and wills between a superstar and a political powerhouse. Manav and Bhoora are two sides of the same coin, morally ambiguous and teetering on the edge of becoming best buds. It’s like watching a high-stakes game of “Who Can Outsmart Who” while munching on popcorn and rooting for your favorite underdog.

More than just a revenge thriller

As the story hurtles forward, the writers keep throwing googlies that leave you wide-eyed and grinning in awe. We’ve got a self-seeking computer wizard Sai (Neeraj Madhav), who’s as slippery as a snake, a media frenzy that’s so over-the-top that you already have a picture in your head, and even a don (Gautam Joglekar), with a bruised ego who wants to show the world that the underworld is still kicking. These characters inject a healthy dose of satire and keep the laughs rolling in the most organic way possible.

OTT Action, but looks convincing as the leads shine

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room—Ayushmann Khurrana dishing out bone-crushing action moves, and that too on a bulky Jaideep Ahlawat? You might think ye thoda zyada hogaya, but hold your horses, because it strangely works! While it’s hard to imagine him as a hardcore action hero, Ayushmann brings his signature charm and vulnerability to the table, making you believe that even a seemingly invincible star can have his fair share of struggles.

But let’s not forget the real star of the show—Jaideep Ahlawat as Bhoora Solanki. He steals the spotlight with his pitch-perfect portrayal of a wrestler-turned-politician driven by caste pride. He’s fierce, he’s determined, and he’s got a presence that commands attention. And when he shares the screen with Jitender Hooda, who plays a slimy police officer, get ready for some hilarious exchanges that form one of the best parts about the movie.

In the midst of all the action and comedy, the film never forgets its roots. The characters’ dialect and dialogues add an authentic touch, transporting you straight into their world. And those special cameos. They serve as cheeky commentary on the industry and add an extra layer of fun to the story, reminding me of the Filmfare Awards scene from Om Shanti Om.

So buckle up, grab your popcorn, and get ready for a wild ride with An Action Hero. It’s a laugh-out-loud, adrenaline-pumping extravaganza that’ll leave you entertained, exhilarated, and secretly wishing you could pull off those killer action moves like Ayushmann. Trust me, this film is the ultimate recipe for a good time—a perfect blend of excitement, humor, and larger-than-life characters that’ll have you cheering for the hero and laughing till your sides hurt. Don’t miss out on the fun!
