UIDAI Denies Pushing Any Helpline Number In Android Phones; People Are Confused

For those who haven’t watched the latest episode of the reality show “Privacy is dead”, here’s what has happened so far.

Just a few days after TRAI Chief’s #AadhaarChallenge, UIDAI has landed itself in yet another controversy. On Thursday, A LOT of Android users found out that UIDAI helpline number was saved in their contact list without any ~ explicit consent~.

The concern amplified when a famous French cyber security expert who goes by the name of Elliot Alderson from Mr. Robot, asked people on Twitter if they had UIDAI helpline number saved in their contacts.

In no time, Twitter was flooded with thousands of screenshots confirming the same. People immediately tagged the concerned authorities and asked them to explain how UIDAI helpline number sneaked into their contact list without their explicit consent.

It sparked the fear of privacy breach among people.

>However, in a press release today, UIDAI confirmed that they haven’t asked any telecom providers or manufacturer to include this helpline number. They also confirmed that the said “18003001947” has been replaced by 1947 and it’s not even valid anymore.

This press release just creates more questions than answers. If UIDAI hasn’t advised any manufacturer or telecom provider, who on Earth added this number in our contact list without our consent? it has left people confused and everyone’s asking the same thing – “What the hell is going on?”
