2022 was a khatta-meetha year for enjoyers of the comedy genre. While on one had we had, hilarious movies that had us in splits and wholesome shows that kept us glued to our screens, we also had some huge disasters jisme the humour was set according to a 4 year old’s psyche. Par kab tak TMKOC ke old episodes se kaam chalaoge? Here’s a list of the ‘better’ Bollywood comedies of 2022 for your emo era days.

  • Panchayat Season 2

It’s the same old Phulera gaon in UP where we resume the journey of our city buoy Abhishek aka humare Sachiv Ji who is on a mission to crack the CAT exams while grappling with the challenges of heading the village. This season dives deep into his relationships with the village locals and his bond with the Pradhan family and his colleagues Vikas and Prahlad. Jeetu bhaiya delivers a stellar performance as Abhishek, effortlessly going ‘idhar chala main udhar chala’ between slapstick comedy and genuine vulnerability. Yes, the finale did kinda ruin the vibe of the show, but Panchayat S2 still leaves enough for fans to love, and eagerly wait for the third one!

  • Jugjugg Jeeyo

This Bollywood comedy showcases a dysfunctional family’s amusing misadventures, with a talented cast including Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor. The performances are okayish, delivering laughter and heartfelt moments. However, the screenplay struggles to maintain consistency, occasionally veering into predictable territory coupled with either melodrama or forced comedy. The songs, although catchy, lack originality. Samjhe Daya? Iska matlab ye hai ki the movie falls short of fully capitalizing on its potential. It may appeal to fans seeking light-hearted entertainment, but at the end of the day, it is the same ghisi piti Bollywood story with minimal innovation and narrative depth.
Available on: Prime Video

  • Jaadugar

Jaadugar revolves around Meenu played by the evergreen Jitendra Kumar, an aspiring magician who falls in love with Dr. Disha, portrayed by the talented Arushi Sharma. To win her heart, Meenu must triumph in an inter colony football tournament. The story takes time to develop but offers witty dialogues, heartwarming moments, and impressive magic tricks that entertain viewers. However, the film suffers from uneven editing in the second half and abrupt shifts in tone from energetic to serious. Despite its flaws, Jaadugar manages to captivate with Meenu’s magical journey, even if it falls short of achieving its full potential. Jeetu bhaiya ke liye dekhna toh bannta hai.
Available on: Netflix

  • Bhool Bhulaiyya 2

Let’s be honest, no one thought this movie would be in this list when it was first announced. While the sequel is nothing close to the prequel, BB 2 still is a decent successor. Kartik and Kiara take up the challenge and do a commendable job with their fun chemistry. While the plot is kaafi simple, organic (and bits of forced) comedy in the first half and twists and turns alongside the horror element in the second half makes the movie a pretty fun one time watch. Tabu shines in the movie, and plays a good anchor towards the end. Watch it ironically and it just gets 10x better. Par BB 3 announce karne ki kya zaroorat thi yaar, let it be na.
Available on: Netflix

  • Gullak Season 3

The plot resumes with Mishra family taking center stage while the mitti ka Gullak eagerly telling us their kissey. Led by Santosh Mishra, played by Jameel Khan and his wife Shanti Mishra, played by Geetanjali Kulkarni, the show delves further into the everyday struggles, aspirations, and relationships of this middle-class clan. Gullak Season 3 is not just a laugh-out-loud comedy that fearlessly embraces the everyday madness of middle-class life. It is one which actually compels you to feel for the Mishras. It also makes you come to terms with your own struggles, as if hugging you and saying, “it’s okay, we are in this together.” Wholesomeness 101
Available on: Sony LIV

  • College Romance Season 3

College Romance S3 is TVF’s wild ride that captures the essence of college chaos and camaraderie. Karan, Bagga, DP, Deepika and Naira are back with their hilarious misadventures and relatable struggles. From awkward relationships to crazy parties and relatable college anecdotes, the show is a perfect entertainer for aaj kal bachhe (aur jawaan). The performances are consistently refined, restrained, and understated, making the series enjoyable without going over the top. Whether you’re a college-goer or just nostalgic for those crazy days, “College Romance” Season 3 is a binge-worthy delight that will leave you laughing and longing for more.
Available on: Sony LIV

What are you waiting for? Grab your best friend (ask them to make the popcorn) and beat the week day blues with these laughter riots! But also ngl, I miss the Hera Pheri era.
