We are no strangers to the fact that Indian women face sexual harassment in public on a daily basis. Recently, a Delhi University student posted a video of a middle-aged man masturbating right next to her on a crowded bus. She shouted at him and raised an alarm but no one in the bus responded.
Now meet Taslima Nasreen.
She’s a very famous Bangladeshi author who’s been living in exile since 1994. She thinks public masturbation is a victimless crime and she’d rather have men masturbate in public than rape and murder.
A man in a crowded Delhi bus masturbated. It should not be considered a big crime in the era of rape culture. Men should rather masturbate, than rape and murder. Is masturbating in public a crime? Well it is a victim-less crime.

Um, wait, a victim-less crime?!
So if a 45 year old creepy uncle whips out his pee-pee and starts wanking it next to a college student, she’s not a victim?!
What quality maal is she smoking?
Well, it’s the internet. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Taslima Nasreen is a famous and her opinion influences a lot of young people and it needs to be called out. People understand that and here’s how people responded to her tweet.
Whipping out your penis& masturbating in public is NOT a victim-less crime. Too many young girls will attest to feeling ‘uncomfortable/gross/intimidated’ bc some pervert cldnt resist the urge to masturbate in public.
Stop stop categorising crimes through ur skewed sense of morale https://t.co/yAX9xkhJ0V

So awesome. We found a solution to men raping and murdering. They can masturbate instead! Yay!
STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR MEN AND HOLD THEM TO HIGHER STANDARDS! https://t.co/MpPwnM7789

1. When you grade crimes, rape being highest on the scale, no woman will feel safe to report abuse. 2. It's sexual passive-aggression and a reminder that men can basically control all spaces women occupy and make them feel uncomfortable with no consequences. You have your victim. https://t.co/j16XtYm9F5

There is nothing like big crime or small crime. A Crime is a crime. Feeling someone or masturbating in public is a crime even according to section 354, 509 and 268 of IPC. https://t.co/U1GBhgIkYs

Is physical contact the basis for deciding whether or not someone has been affected? I've faced men publicly masturbating on three separate occasions and I assure you that the memory alone is enough to make me panic all over again. Can we please not attempt to normalise this? https://t.co/tE3rld7LEd

Exposing your genitals to people who don’t want to see them and receiving sexual pleasure from the shock/discomfort you cause is not a victimless crime https://t.co/Yiz6BipOA1
