Fortis Hospital Becomes Butt Of Jokes After It Over-Bills Parents Of A Dengue Victim

Private healthcare system in India is a big joke. Recent case at Gurugram Fortis Hospital only proves it further.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you’d know that Gurugram based Fortis Hospital, besides prescribing expensive medicines, billed the parents of a 7-year-old dengue victim for 660 syringes and 2,700 gloves during the 15-day hospital stay. The total bill soared to 18 friggin’ lakhs. On top of that, they refused to give the death certificate, and to avoid a death on their hands, they even asked family to arrange another hospital’s ambulance.

This case came into focus when the tweet about the over-billing went viral on Twitter and it got the attention of media reporters, and Union health minister JP Nadda, who immediately asked the Haryana government to initiate an “urgent” probe into the allegations and submit an action taken report within two weeks.

This case has motivated people to voice their terrible experiences at the hands of private hospital. A lot of people are taking it to social media to speak up about the corrupt and crumbling public healthcare system in India.

While others are using humor as a medium of outrage, and as a result, Fortis Hospital has now become the butt of jokes on Twitter.
